#101 Children's Book Class

Developing characters, drawing out adorable scenes, reaching to a child's imagination... the perfect class for me! I've had a lot of fun with it and can't wait for what's to come.

Some artists I kept in mind of this project...
My discovery of the great Carter Goodrich (shown below) was a huge influence on what I wanted to mold my work to look like.

Gary Kelley has been an inspiration of mine for a while now.

The influence may not be obvious at first, but it was more about injecting shapes and character to every element in the piece, although it does not have shading or hue, I hope that comes through!


I went to the library and researched a number of children's books, trying to nail a style and theme that kids would like.

#89 Digital colors!

I tried to exaggerate some colors I was looking at and create more of a overlaying abstract, but still organic pattern within the piece.  I like how it turned out!  I'm really starting to enjoy these linework/ digital color projects.  Maybe someday I'll even learn watercolors... haha

#84 Christian Bale and other digital things

Pretty happy with how it turned out

It was a pretty fun project! I'm going to draw other silly celebrity portraits in future, definitely.  More of them being traditional probably...but Photoshop painting is still pretty nice.

Here's some landscapes out of my head as an exercise in class.  We weren't supposed to use any reference of any kind...although most people did anyway... I don't understand why these people are in art school!!  Get those creative juices.

I'm redoing the "Dapper Dan" project in Illustrator, and I must say, it's taking forever.  Well... at least it's clean! CLEAN LINES SO CLEAN.  Gonna be worth the time working on this sucker so it's likely I'm giong to be hiding away for the next few days in my art cave.

#81 Finished Hitler Rabbit (or pretty damn close)

No, I'm not dead!

It's been a long winter break, or maybe it just seemed that way without art projects ruling my life!
Well School is back in session so you'll be seeing a post on here at least every couple of days, or every other day if I can help it!  Here's some stuff I've been fiddling with over the time off...

"what's this?? You're re-posting?" No, this is another go at my Hitler rabbit buddy.  I consider the last one to be my rough draft.

I'm being much more careful and precise with this one.  It's my first 'big piece' to be done with pen and ink instead of just...pens, so it's a super delicate process.

 I've been working on this too, you probably can't tell an immediate difference, but it has changed a bit.

"hiss! Bloood"

 Practicing the technique I used for the image before this one.  It's fun but takes a long time, building up layers and whatnot.

#75 Hitler was a vegitarian

Here's a wip on an illustrated factoid. "Hitler was a vegetarian" was picked randomly out of a hat, and I must say it was quite fun to work on :D

After I color this, I'm going to go back and line work the crap out of this thing!....miight color it after that...but kinda doubt it.  Line work is enough for me.
